“Bohemian Highway: The short route to relaxation” is an article by Deb Wandell published in the San Francisco Chronicle on October 31, 2016. It highlights Western Hills as one of the attractions on the Bohemian Highway.

A trip to Western Hills was featured as part of the Pacific Horticultural Society meeting in October 2016. See “Changing Times, Changing Gardens: Summit 2016, Shaping a New Garden in a Challenging Environment.

“Puya plant blooms for first time in Occidental,” an article by Meg McConahey, was published February 19, 2016, in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat about the Puya chilensis in bloom at Western Hills.

In April 2015, the Garden Conservancy published an overview of the garden and its milestones in “Tenacious Western Hills opens March 14 [2015]”.

Western Hills Garden was featured by the Pacific Horticulture Society in the Winter 2015 edition of its magazine. In addition to the feature article, Pacific Horticulture magazine published a companion online biographical study of the founders of the Garden. Both articles were written by David Laws.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat published “Western Hills—an oasis of beauty” on August 22, 2014. The Press Democrat also ran a flattering piece on the reopening of Western Hills Garden for 2014 on April 3. “Restoration continues at iconic Western Hills Garden” was the title of an article by David Laws published in the San Francisco Examiner on July 31, 2014.

Owner Tim Szybalski and garden manager and volunteer coordinator Stacie Miller were interviewed about Western Hills Garden on the “In the Garden” morning show on San Francisco radio station KSFO (560 kHz AM) on August 18, 2013. The guest host was Sara Godwin, a writer and frequent visitor to Western Hills. The show airs on Sundays from 8 to 11am, and the interview was from 9:30–10:30. Western Hills Garden owners and staff attended the Garden Conservancy’s “Sustaining the Garden: Preservation Weekend 2012” in Chicago during September, where a number of gardens around the country were featured, including Western Hills. The seminars and tours highlighted the importance of gardens in the community and provided practical advice and networking opportunities.

In mid-September 2012, the Santa Rosa Press Democrat published an inspiring homage to Western Hills Garden and its volunteers.

The garden was featured by Pacific Horticulture magazine in July 2012 as a “Late Summer” destination: “… you’ll find a tranquil space with plants and trees of all types along meandering paths.”

The reopening of Western Hills Garden was noted by several different sources:

The San Francisco Chronicle featured the reopening of Western Hills Garden in its Home and Garden section on July 15, 2012 … “Beloved plot reborn”.

National Public Radio KRCB in Cotati, California, ran a very flattering interview with the owners in July 2012. KRCB also featured the restoration of Western Hills Garden in a two-part series broadcast January 17–18, 2012.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat announced the June 2, 2012, opening“legendary”“remarkable” in an article by Meg McConahey published on May 29, 2012.

The change in ownership of Western Hills was the catalyst for the appearance of several articles about the garden during August and September 2010. A San Francisco Chronicle article by Joe Eaton and Ron Sullivan was published on 9/1/10 along with nine photos; a Lamorinda Patch article by Lou Fancher was published on 8/29/10 (Lamorinda includes Lafayette, Orinda, and Moraga in the San Francisco East Bay Area); and a Santa Rosa Press Democrat article by Meg McConahey was published on 8/15/10. The Fall 2010 issue of the “Garden Conservancy News” (Vol. 21, No. 2) also included an article about Western Hills (568K pdf).
