Membership Note: If you want to attend our member events or just enjoy the garden through the changes in seasons, now is the time to consider a membership. We will be offering four free passes for our new members, and you will be helping support the garden into the future.
Planned events for 2017: We plan several “Walk and Talks” during 2017. Most will be held on Saturdays from 1 to 4pm for our regular fee of $10 per person. The current schedule is as follows:
[April 1 — Noted landscape designer Roger Raiche talked about The Influence of Western Hills Garden on his work. Roger is an alumnus of UCB Botanical, an early collaborator at Western Hills, and the driving force behind preservation of “The Cedars” Conservation Region in Sonoma County.]
[April 8 — We offered Mulch Madness, a hands-on look at our composting operation run by volunteers Dick and Mary Miner. Mary won the “Best of Show” in the composting competition at the Marin County Fair with Western Hills compost. Dick was a prior winner with his Alcatraz submission.]
Future planned events for 2017 include:
Our Western Hills Iris Collection, showcased by Jonnie Russel, a long-term volunteer in the garden. Jonnie has helped us upgrade our collection with her passion for iris.
A Bee’s Eye View of the Garden, with local beekeeper Steve Woodward, exploring the lives of the bees at Western Hills Garden.
Look Up! with Sara Malone, admiring the form and foliage of the garden; this is a joint event with the American Conifer Society, so attendance may be limited.
