New arrivals for May 2013: the spectacular rhodies and azaleas are the headline. The Japanese maples are leafing out, dogwoods are starting to bloom, and the conifers have great new spring growth. The beschorneria are sending up giant flower buds.

photo from Western Hills Garden The garden has many flowers emerging right now. The Giant “Hercules” Calla Lilies are over 6 feet tall. The maderense geraniums are coming, as well as the first blooms ever on the giant spear lily (Doryanthus palmeri).

Other notables include: clematis, columbines, dove tree, echium biennial, echium wildpretii (“Tower of Jewels”) homeria, iris, “Green Goddess” calla lilies, lunarias, Peonies, viburnum, and wisteria.
